SHORING (aka. Geosupport shoring)
takes many
forms of construction techniques from supporting open trenches with
shields to vertical cut shoring walls. The most widely used vertical
shoring walls use soldier piles (usually HP
or wide flange beams) with
lagging. Lagging can be wood, shotcrete, pre-cast concrete panels or
steel plate. For walls over 15 feet, the addition of tiebacks, pipe
bracing OR dead men is frequently used. Other common shoring
systems include SOIL NAILS, SHEET PILING,
SECANT WALLS and TIEBACKS with concrete
washers (no piles). Whichever system is chosen by the design
engineer, it should be done with cost and constructability in mind.

slope repair project. Tiebacks, soldier beams and shotcrete lagging
comprised the shoring system designed by Cefali &
Associates.
|
Secant Walls eliminate problems
for constructing in difficult ground conditions, like caving and water
seepage. Also, Secant Walls can be used as permanent walls for
subterranean parking structures and basements, at considerable cost
savings.

Temporary
shoring using only "slim hole" tiebacks with concrete washers
(no soldier piles). August Construction installed the first Caltrans project of
this type.
